Meet Our Host : Ciara Flood
Ciara Flood has a degree in Visual Communications from Technological University Dublin and has over 20 years industry experience working as an illustrator, graphic designer and art director. She has worked for a wide range of clients and in different working environments; small design studios, corporate offices, fast-paced advertising agencies and also her kitchen table.
Ciara has always been passionate about children’s books and her first author/illustrator picture book, Those Pesky Rabbits, was published by Templar Books in 2015. She has gone on to illustrate and/or write more children’s books published in the UK by Bonnier Books, Andersen Press, Farshore and Guppy Books. Her books have been translated into many co-editions around the world.
Ciara has taught workshops in schools, libraries and various literary festivals. She also works as a sessional tutor at City Lit College in Covent Garden teaching illustration to adult learners in addition to running various workshops for children, teens and adults at Hive, an arts and crafts venue in South London.

1. What is the suitable age range for this workshop?
This workshop is designed for children aged 6 to 12 years old. The activities and materials are tailored for this age group, ensuring younger kids can enjoy the process while older children dive deeper into character creation and storytelling.
2. Will parents or guardians be allowed to stay with their children?
Yes! Parents or guardians are welcome to stay during the workshop if they wish. However, it’s not mandatory. Our experienced workshop team, along with Jo Rooks, will ensure your child feels comfortable, engaged, and supported throughout the event. If you decide to stay, we kindly ask that you let your child enjoy the creative process independently, with minimal interruptions.
3. Do participants need to bring anything?
No, we’ve got everything covered! All materials, including sketchpads, pencils, colors, paints, and collage materials, will be provided. If your child has a favorite set of tools or a specific material they’d like to incorporate, they are welcome to bring it along!
4. Does my child need prior illustration or story-writing experience?
Not at all! This workshop is designed for all skill levels, whether your child loves to doodle or is just starting to explore creativity. Jo Rooks will guide participants step-by-step through the process, ensuring everyone has fun while learning.
